Client Brief: Chaap Maharaj was envisioned as a vibrant and innovative culinary concept focused on introducing Chaap and Chinese cuisine to a city with limited exposure to these culinary delights. The goal was to create an engaging and affordable venue serving pure vegetarian food while prominently highlighting Chaap as the main attraction. The design approach emphasized a catchy name and a lively visual identity that would resonate with the local community.

Design Concept Development

Brand Identity
Logo Design: The logo for Chaap Maharaj was meticulously crafted to embody the essence of the brand, combining cultural symbolism with modern design elements:
Cultural Symbolism: The logo features a bold moustache and traditional turban, representing the rich culinary heritage of India. This not only connects with the target audience but also brings an authentic touch to the brand.
Typography as Design Element: The word “Chaap” was creatively designed to resemble traditional attire, incorporating flowing lines and curves that evoke local fashion. This approach ensures the logo is not just a name but a visual representation of the cuisine and culture.
Mascots: Multiple mascots were developed to add a playful element to the brand identity. These characters are designed to engage customers, making the dining experience more memorable and inviting.

Color Palette
The color palette was selected to reflect the vibrant and fresh nature of the cuisine. Semi-vibrant colors such as lively greens, warm oranges, and deep reds were chosen to create an inviting atmosphere. Welcoming Ambiance: The interior of the attached shop was designed to create a cozy dining experience. Comfortable seating, vibrant decor, and thematic elements reflect the lively spirit of the brand.
Menu Board Design: A visually appealing menu board was implemented, highlighting the offerings in a clear and engaging manner. The design used bold typography and vibrant colors to draw attention and facilitate easy navigation for customers.
Tagline: The tagline “Delhi Chaap n Desi Chinese” was crafted to succinctly communicate the brand’s focus on chaap and Chinese cuisine, reinforcing the fusion concept while remaining catchy and memorable.

Apparel Design
The apparel design for Chaap Mahraj was created to enhance brand recognition and promote a cohesive identity among staff:
Staff Uniforms: Polo t-shirts featuring the Chaap Mahraj logo were designed to ensure staff look professional yet approachable. The simple yet striking design allows the logo to stand out prominently.
Additional Apparel Elements: Matching aprons and caps were developed to further enhance the staff’s appearance. These elements not only promote brand visibility but also contribute to the overall dining experience, ensuring a consistent brand image.

Menu Design
The menu design focused on a visually engaging layout that enhances customer interaction:

For all branding materials, including menus, signage, and promotional graphics, we chose Quest font for its modern and clean aesthetic:
Readability: The Quest font was selected for its excellent legibility, ensuring that all text is easily readable from a distance. This clarity improves the overall customer experience by minimizing confusion.
Brand Cohesion: The contemporary nature of the font aligns with the vibrant and welcoming identity of Chaap Mahraj, creating a unified visual language across all brand touchpoints.
Standee Design: The design of promotional standees utilized a circular layout that prominently displayed enticing images of popular dishes, accompanied by short descriptions. This clear and engaging depiction encourages exploration of the menu and fosters curiosity.
Instagram Grid and In-Shop Framing
To create a cohesive visual narrative and enhance brand presence, we developed an Instagram grid strategy that complements the vibrant identity of Chaap Maharaj. The same designs used for the Instagram posts were adapted as framed displays within the shop, reinforcing the connection between the online and physical experiences.

The vibrant designs from the Instagram grid were printed and framed throughout the shop, creating a seamless connection between the digital and physical environments.
